Can businesses focused on Entrepreneurial Households deliver consistent long-term returns for investors? It's one thing to make that statement, but another to demonstrate it.
We developed the EHI Index to do just that. It tracks the performance of 34 publicly listed Indian companies that primarily offer core products and services designed for Entrepreneurial Households. Companies in the Index meet several criteria, including a business focus on this audience segment and contributions to their core spending, presence in relevant markets, and scale.
Currently, the Index consists of Financial Services focused stocks, given the early role of financial inclusion in enabling flow of capital to Entrepreneurial Households. This list includes small finance banks, diversified NBFCs, firms offering affordable housing finance, microfinance and MSME finance, and others.
The Index demonstrates that it is possible to serve Entrepreneurial Households and deliver commercial returns.
The Index constituents beat the aggregate performance of constituents of benchmark indices on growth and profitability. Returns of the Index surpass those of NIFTY 50 and NIFTY Financials Sevices and other benchmark indices.
For comparison purposes, all indexes have been rebalanced to 100 as of the EHI Index base date (Jan 2017). The chart shows how $100 invested in each of the indices on the EHI Index base date would have grown over time.
