Johanna Posada
Johanna is a Co-founder of EPIC World and Founder and Managing Partner at Elevar Equity. She believes in the power of capital markets and equality to drive a sustainable and inclusive future for Entrepreneurial Households. Her passion has materialized in over twenty-five years of experience in emerging market investment, governance across for-profits and non-profits, financial inclusion, corporate finance and economic research. She is regarded as a leading impact investor globally and in Latin America, where she has championed and mentored women in the VC and investing space.
Her experience growing up in Mexico and understanding the negative impact that inequality has on the social and economic fabric of a country drove her to the microfinance sector in 2004, where she structured and implemented capital strategies across debt and equity to accelerate the industry. She founded Elevar in 2008 and invested in some of the largest providers of financial, educational, and MSME-oriented services to Entrepreneurial Households in India and Latin America. She leads Elevar's investing practice in Latin America, partnering closely with entrepreneurs to drive ambition and results, and build consequential, customer-centric businesses. She has played a global role in creating the fund’s finance and compliance processes.
Johanna's knack for financial modeling, expertise in developing theses and structuring complex transactions, and ability to successfully close difficult negotiations drive her excitement in creating innovative capital strategies that leverage diverse asset classes and return appetites to achieve EPIC World’s mission.
She started her career in 1997 as an Economist with Mexico’s Central Bank and later worked across various corporate finance functions at ExxonMobil. Before Elevar, she developed Unitus’ MFI partnerships and investments, facilitating capital to MFIs by leveraging financing mechanisms across Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Johanna got her bachelor's degree in economics from ITAM (Mexico) and her MBA from Stanford University.
