Anyone wanting to get a sense of the entrepreneurial drive of small-town India just needs to hear Renu talk about her story. She started an apparel retail business in the small town of Bohar in 2016 and has been evolving it ever since. She got it off the ground with savings and a loan from her brother, and saved diligently and used these savings to build her retail inventory. She would source inventory from Delhi, Panipat, Sonipat and Rohtak.

Expanding her business

Over time, with success, Renu has forged strong ties with wholesalers to build lines of credit and expand her product range. This helped transform her store into a popular local destination for women seeking a wide array of items, including clothing, bangles, shoes, blankets, and cosmetics.

She proudly says that her business has evolved along with her customers' requirements. If she doesn't have something, she ensures she sources it, ready to sell to them in a few days. Now that is unwavering customer commitment!

"I would advise everyone to get up and do something. Even God won't bring you food if you sit on your bed!" - Renu, Rohtak

It's in the family

Renu's household is a model Entrepreneurial Household. Her husband also runs a store and gains income from being a bus driver. Their children help their parents with their businesses. The daughter, Payal, is proud of her mom and dreams of seeing their family name displayed proudly on hoardings in Rohtak and beyond. "I want her to be renowned and famous, I want all the suits she sells to have her name tag. That is what I want for her and her business", she gushes.

Renu is deeply ambitious, but at the same time believes what she is doing is something anyone can do. "Never be afraid and do your own business yourself, there is nothing to be afraid of", she says. That is remarkable wisdom from someone who has been in business for less than a decade!

Like Renu's, there are 250 million such Entrepreneurial Households across India. Their demands for core solutions like quality education, healthcare and MSME financing represent a multi-trillion dollar business opportunity for investors and entrepreneurs to participate in their growth.
